Focus: 5 Smooth Stones (Pt.4)
Text: 1Sam.17:40
We have seen three smooth stones so far - the Name, the Word, and the Spirit. Today we focus on the next smooth stone - the Blood of Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ is seen in Revelation 19:13 as dressed in blood. It says, "And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God." His garment is soaked in blood. O, there is power in the blood of Jesus Christ! Just imagine that you are fighting a man who is already covered in blood! How frightened you could be! You might be forced to retreat or think twice, for such a man with blood all over him would have nothing to spare.
The BLOOD of Christ is one smooth stone that slays the devil. It is in the death of Christ that Death was slain. By the shed blood of Christ Death has lost its terror and venom.
Let us see what the Blood of Christ has done and still does for us.
*The blood saves
It is written in Rev.5:9, "For thou wast slain, and hast REDEEMED us to God by thy blood…" The word 'redeemed' is 'agorazo' in the Greek, and it literally means 'to buy from the slave-market.' The Lord Jesus Christ paid for our freedom with His life. Yes, we are bought with a price!
*The blood secures our pardons
Eph.1:7 says, "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace." The word 'remission' is used in Heb.9:22. Through the shed blood of Christ our sins are remitted and our soul receives pardon.
*The blood grants us access into God's presence
The Scripture says, "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus" (Heb.10:19). We access the very presence of God by the blood of Christ.
*The blood protects us
God says, "And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt" (Ex.12:13). We are protected by the blood. By the blood of Jesus Christ the angel of death has lost legitimacy over us.
*The blood looses us from bondage
John writes, "Unto him that loved us, and WASHED us from our sins in his own blood…" (Rev.1:5). The word 'washed' is 'luo' in the Greek, and it basically means 'to loose or set free.' The blood does more than wash away our sins; it also looses us from our bondage. Remember the Lord Jesus Christ saying to the people concerning Lazarus, "Loose him, and let him go." That is exactly what Jesus Christ did for us - He released us.
*The blood cleanses us
John says, "The blood of Jesus Christ his Son CLEANSETH us from all sin" (1Jh.1:7). It keeps cleansing us. It's a continuous thing, not a one time thing. The blood launders and dyes our robes, making them white. John writes, "These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb" (Rev.7:14).
*The blood ratified the covenant
We read, "This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you" (Heb.9:20). It is called the "blood of the covenant" in Hebrews 10:29. The covenant and all of the promises of God have been stamped, sealed and made sure by Christ's shed blood.
*The blood gives us victory
We read, "And they OVERCAME him by the blood of the Lamb…" (Rev.12:11). The blood is the smooth stone that guarantees victory over the devil and his agents. It is the slaying stone that God has put in our hands. Satan cannot survive the death-blow of the blood of Jesus Christ. While the blood saves and secures us, it silences and slays the enemy of our souls.
We'll take the final smooth stone tomorrow. Blessings!
