Focus: A Wonderful Life (Pt.2)
Text: Gal.2:20
"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."
In part two of this topic of A Wonderful Life, we will focus on the Simple Life. If you ever want to live a wonderful life as God requires of you to do, you must make it simple. Simple life is a beautiful life. It is a kind of life that is not artificial or superficial. A wonderful life is simple, not sophisticated or complicated.
Simple life is not cluttered with a whole lot of things that are not important. Simple life requires that you be you, not someone else. Simple life is sweet. It is rooted in true values and focused on the main things of life.
David says, "ONE THING have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple" (Ps.27:4).
Simple life boils down to one thing. God is the foundation of the simple life.
The Lord Jesus Christ said to a certain rich man who came to him in search of eternal life, "Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou ONE THING: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me" (Lk.18:22).
It matters not what you possess, but if you lack this one thing, which is eternal life, then you must count yourself as the poorest human being on the surface of the earth.
Eternal life is such a fundamental thing that you would need to sell everything you have to obtain it. That means that nothing temporal or material is as important as eternal life, and I make bold to say to you that in all your getting, get eternal life. Nothing is worth having if you lack eternal life.
One blind man in the New Testament says, "Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: ONE THING I KNOW, that, whereas I was blind, now I see" (Jh.9:25). One thing I desire and seek after… One thing I know... Simple life does not require knowing everything, but just one thing.
Paul says, "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this ONE THING I DO, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before" (Phil.3:13). One thing I desire and seek after - one passion. One thing I know, not many things I know. Now it is one thing I do… Just one overriding pursuit! Engaging in things that truly matter.
The Lord Jesus Christ says, "But ONE THING IS NEEDFUL: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her" (Lk.10:42). One thing is needful, not many!
In this life, not everything is important. Essential things of life are fewer than you could ever imagine. Simple life leaves no room for trivialities and frivolities.
Someone says that the grand essentials of life are: something fit to do, something to hope for, and someone to love supremely.
Live for things that money can't buy! Check that your whole life is connected to life's great fundamentals! Find your role in life and fulfill it!
The Lord Jesus Christ talks about the weightier matters of the law, and He said, "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone" (Mt.23:23).
You must leave nothing undone! You can't pick and choose which law to keep and which to neglect. Owe no man nothing but love! Love is the debt we owe God, but we pay it to men. You live your entire life paying the debt of love. A life well lived is a life simply lived. Simplicity is beautiful and tasty. Simple life is a wonderful life.
