Focus: All My Soul
Text: Dt.6:5
"And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with ALL thy SOUL, and with all thy might."
No part of our being is to be left out in loving and serving God. God demands the totality of all we are and all we have. Loving God demands our all - all your HEART, all your SOUL, all your MIGHT, and all your MIND. Our whole personality should be devoted to loving God.
The psalmist says, "My SOUL shall make her boast in the LORD… And my SOUL shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation… My trusted in thee… My soul waits upon God… My soul thirsteth for thee… My soul followeth hard after you… My soul longeth…for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh cries out for the living God… Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name… Thy testimonies are wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them… My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly… I lift up my soul unto thee… Praise the LORD, O my soul…" (Ps.34:2; 35:9; 57:1; 62:1; 63:1,8; 84:2; 103:1; 119:129; 143:8; 146:1).
Your SOUL is not just a part of you; it is you - "Man became a living soul" - Gen.2:7.
What does loving God imply? It is simply doing whatever God says. It is being obedient and loyal to God. Jesus says, "If ye love me, keep my commandments. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father… If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love" (Jh.14:15,21; 15:10.) Amen.
