Focus: All Things Are Yours
Text: Rom.8:32
"He that SPARED NOT his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not WITH HIM also FREELY give us ALL THINGS."
God for love makes costly sacrifices for us. We were desperately in need of rescue and a rescuer, and God happened to be the only one who could help us out of our deep misery.
Sadly at the time, we were God's enemies. We were sinners. We were ungodly. Paul clearly describes our situation at the time:
We were without God, without Christ, without strength, without hope, aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise (Eph.2:12; Rom.5:6).
We were without the only one who could help us out.
Just imagine being in a situation where the only person that could save you was your own enemy!
But God is different. He is not a man who is revengeful. God is good, kind, merciful and compassionate. There is no 'teeth for tat' with God.
He spared not His own Son. There's a little word in the Greek that was not translated in English. The word is 'ge,' which means 'indeed' in English. It's a word of emphasis. God did not 'indeed' spare His Son. While we were busy hating God, He was busy loving us. Christ died for the ungodly and ungrateful. While we were yet sinners God sent His Son to die in our place and deliver us from all our mess and misery.
Now He has shattered our fetters and freed us from our chains. Jesus has become our strength and hope. God is now with us and Christ lives in us by the Spirit. Hallelujah!
One more thing. The word 'freely' in our text means 'graciously.' On account of Jesus, God has opened to us His treasure house. He will WITH JESUS graciously grant us all things. As Christ comes into your life, all other graces come with Him. God graciously gives us all things. Christ is the key to every blessing of God. All our needs are met in Christ and all our blessings flow from Him as well. With the greatest blessing comes all the lesser ones. For Christ's sake, God withholds no good thing from us.
Now I exhort you to follow Paul's instruction: "By prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God" (Phil.4:6). Amen.
