Focus: Anointing Avails
Text: 1Sam.27:1
"And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul."
David seemed forgetful of the fact that there was an anointing upon his head, and indeed a kingly anointing. God doesn't waste His oil. God didn't anoint David just for Saul to waste or make nonsense of the anointing. God anointed David to be king, not to be killed by Saul.
Anointing saves and secures. It avails, prevails and preserves. Anointing doesn't suffer defeat. Anointing is given by God for a purpose, and that purpose cannot be thwarted by the enemy.
David was gripped with fear. He was beginning to believe in the possibility of being killed by Saul. The troubles were mounting for him. The attacks were becoming one too many and very overwhelming. He was feeling terribly exposed and in great danger.
One thing about the anointing is that it attracts envy and jealousy from carnal servants or people of God.
Imagine Saul the anointed plotting to eliminate David the anointed! One anointed fighting against another anointed. That is the sad reality of our spiritual experience. Anointing draws attention and attracts persecution. Anointing puts your life in danger, but the same anointing ensures your protection, for the one who owns the anointing lives in you and goes with you everywhere. The anointing provides and protects.
David spoke to himself by fear, not by faith. Thankfully, his fear did not come to pass. Saul couldn't kill him. David survived all the attacks and succeeded Saul on the throne. He did not die in the hands of Saul. He fulfilled his mandate and died in a good old age. The Scripture says, "And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead" (1Chron.29:28).
Job's fear came to pass, for he said, "For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me" (Jb.3:25), whereas David's own fear didn't. God protected him from Saul's death-traps. It is good to know that eventually Job survived what fear brought upon him, and David also survived Saul's onslaughts and reigned as king over Israel.
The anointing protected and preserved David. The anointing brought him to the throne. The anointing saw him through in life. The anointing helped and sustained him. The anointing kept him alive. He came close to death a million times, yet the anointing would not let him die. He could hear the message of the anointing, which says, 'You are a person of destiny. You are called to purpose, not to perdition.'
Is there a Saul in your life? I assure you: by the anointing of God upon your life you will survive him and surmount all the odds and obstacles in your way. The anointing is not for nothing. It guarantees your security. The threats and attacks of the enemy amount to nothing because of the anointing. You will not die in Saul's hands. The anointing is your shield of defense. Value the anointing. Be conscious of the anointing you possess! Appreciate the fact that Christ the anointed one lives in you! His anointing avails at all times.
