Text: 1Sam.9:8

"Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give to the man of God, to tell us our way."

I suggest that you read 1Samuel 9 and 10 to understand and follow the flow of this message. These two chapters reveal God as the perfect orchestrator of our lives and our destinies. Divine sovereignty and providence work in our favor. God is always making all things work together for our good - the good of those who love God and are the called according to His purpose.

These two chapters show us that beyond the mundane lies the sublime, and that there is always a bigger picture to life than the ordinary things we pursue. But we often arrive at life's grander purpose from the back door of the ordinary. David stepped on the grand stage of history and destiny when he was sent by his father to go visit his brothers at the military camp. It was there that he met and killed Goliath, and saved his people Israel.

Kish, Saul's father, is looking for his asses. Asses are huge assets. People at that time measure the level of your wealth by the number of assess or beasts of burden that you have. These animals serve as pickup trucks for everyday business. So Kish tells his son Saul to choose one of the servants and go in search of the asses. Saul and his unnamed servant go everywhere in search of the missing animals. After three days unsuccessful search, Saul decides to call it quits. He tells his servant, 'Let us return home. By this time my father has stopped worrying about the loss to worrying about us.' But his servant feels otherwise, and he says to his young boss, 'Let us not give up just yet. I feel that destiny beckons. Let us engage the spiritual services of one seer in this city whom I know and believe will have something to tell us about the missing asses, and even more.' Saul objects and insists on going home. He gives his servant two reasons why they can't continue the search. The two reasons being that 'It will be difficult finding the Seer, and also, even if we succeed in finding him, we have no money on us to give to him for his services.' The unnamed servant maintains his stance, and says to his master Saul, 'We'll find him, and as for money, don't worry about it; I have a little on me that will take care of that.' Long story cut short, it was in finding Samuel, the man of God, that the mantle of kingship fell on Saul. Everything had already been arranged by God in advance. Interestingly, Samuel informed Saul that his father's asses had since been found, which means that there was a bigger purpose behind the temporary loss of his father's animals. Destiny was calling, and God was already moving heaven and earth in the path of actualizing the divine destiny which has Saul's name on it. The unnamed servant was indeed Saul's destiny helper. God used him to facilitate a divine agenda.

God has planted destiny helpers everywhere for every person of destiny.

The first thing that destiny helpers do is help you. Some of them discover you even before you discover yourself and your purpose in life. They help you find yourself and inspire you to embrace your destiny. They help launch you into the deep. They come alongside you to encourage and urge you on even in the face of all odds. Destiny helpers ensure that you don't quit or give up. They do everything in their power for you to succeed and reach your destination. Like the servant of Saul, they spend on and are spent for you. They make sacrifices for you to move from the background to the forefront, and from the dim-light to the limelight.

Paul had destiny helpers in ministry. He tells Timothy about Onesiphorus, "The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he OFT REFRESHED me, and was NOT ASHAMED of my chain: But, when he was in Rome, he SOUGHT me out very diligently, and FOUND me. The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how MANY THINGS HE MINISTERED UNTO ME at Ephesus, thou knowest very well" (2Tim.1:16-18). Concerning a couple, Paul says, "Greet Priscilla and Aquila MY HELPERS in Christ Jesus" (Rom.16:3). In verse 9 of the same chapter, he says, "Salute Urbane, OUR HELPER in Christ, and Stachys my beloved."

Paul himself was a destiny helper to people everywhere he traveled. In his letter to the church in Corinth he tells them that he and his colleagues are "helpers of your joy" (2Cor.1:24).

David too was blessed with destiny helpers. Amasai says to him, "Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to THINE HELPERS; for THY GOD HELPETH THEE" (1Chron.12:18). God is your main helper. His presence in your life will attract destiny helpers to you. God raises helpers to help you as you walk the path of fulfilling your destiny. Helpers are a proof that God is helping you. I pray for your destiny helpers to manifest. Destiny without destiny helpers suffer in many ways. I pray there shall be a meeting point between you and your destiny helpers, in Jesus' name. Amen.
