Focus: Does God Want Me Healed? (Pt.1)

Text: Ex.15:26
"I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee."
A lot of people wonder if God ever wants them healed from their sicknesses. They wonder if God ever has a remedy for their malady. Those who believe that God healed in the Bible Days wonder if God still heals today. In Matthew 14:14, we read, "And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick." Jesus Christ, out of compassion, healed the sick. Has Christ ceased to be compassionate today? Has He become inconsiderate to the sick in today's world? Is Christ no longer the same yesterday, today and forever?
In Matthew 15:26, the Lord Jesus Christ describes healing or deliverance as "the children's bread." Jesus Christ is the chief chef; He serves all kinds of delicacies with healing properties in them from His kitchen. In fact, only healthy foods are found in God's kitchen.
From our text the Lord announces Himself as the Lord who heals us. He is our Physician - the Lord our Healer! He is always in the business of healing His people. In John 5:6, Christ asked a sick man, "Wilt thou be made whole?"
Christ is willing to heal us, but do we ourselves ever want to get well?
Isaiah declares prophetically, "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his STRIPES we ARE healed" (Isa.53:5). Christ bled on the cross to bless us with divine healing. Many scholars interpret this healing to being spiritual healing or salvation from sin. But it is vital to note that the healing of God is not restricted to salvation from sin or spiritual healing.
God is capable of total healing - spiritual, physical and psychological. If God can heal spiritually, then we should trust Him to heal us physically in a miraculous way.
In 1Cor.12, we find three spiritual gifts, namely, faith, diverse healings, and miracles. If God is not interested in healing us, why make available these gifts of power?
In Isaiah it is written that by the stripes of Christ we ARE healed, and in 1Peter, we read that "by whose stripes ye WERE healed" (1Pet.2:24). While Isaiah pointed to the future, Peter pointed to the past, so that in between them is the cross of Christ. The cross is our place of deliverance and healing. By the cross God conveys our healing. The psalmist captures it well for us. He says, "Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases" (Ps.103:3). Note the two words: iniquities and diseases. God forgives us - spiritual; God heals us - physical, psychological and mental.
