Focus: Get A Word From God! (Pt.2)
Text: Mt.15:23
"And he answered her not a word."
God's word founded the world, and God's world is upheld by God's word. Hence the need to get a word from God. You need God's word to run your life. The Lord Jesus Christ tells the devil, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Mt.4:4). Man is designed to live by the dictates of God's word. God decides and determines how we live our lives through His word.
Getting a word from God is so central and vital to our daily existence that Habakkuk said, "I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved" (Hab.2:1).
Our peace and prosperity are determined by whatever God has to say to us. Even our future is made sure by the word of God.
God's word is our light and guide. God's word is our reference point. When God's word hit home, Peter remembered it. Matthew writes, "And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly" (Mt.26:75). Nothing can take the place of having a memory of God's word. Paul says, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…" (Col.3:16). Get a word from God that not only resides in you but also presides over your entire life.
Mary says, "Be it unto me according to thy word" (Lk.1:38). Peter says, "Nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net…" (Lk.5:5). Mary believes, claims, and prays the word, and Peter obeys and complies with it. Everything God does is always in tandem with His word. God's word will always happen exactly as God says it. Elisabeth declares, "And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord" (Lk.1:45).
Every prophetic word that God tells you is bound to come to pass. God is always in the habit of fulfilling His word. He never relents in doing what He says.
Mark tells us, "And the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen" (Mk.16:20). God follows His word to confirm it in our lives.
One thing you must not do is to exalt anything above the word of God. The Lord Jesus Christ declares, "Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition…" (Mk.7:13). The religious leaders of Christ's time were placing their Jewish traditions over the word of God.
Apart from our text, there is one more time when Christ refused to say a word. Pilate tried to get Christ to defend Himself in the court of law, but Matthew tells us that Christ "answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly" (Mt.27:14). Let us be wary of self-defense! Let us learn to leave matters in the hands of our God! God is the greatest defender of His people.
Child of God, get a word from God! Live in the light of the word of God! Hold on to the word of God! Rest on God's word! The Canaanite woman pressed to get a word from Christ, and she got it, and Christ's words worked a miracle in her life. She went home to a changed situation. The daughter had been made whole by the word spoken by Christ. God's word will settle issues in your life. Amen!
