Focus: God Guides!
Text: Isa.58:11
"And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not."
The Scripture is revelatory in nature. It tells us a lot about God and other things. By the Scripture we are exposed to the knowledge of God.
Our text makes us aware of some things about our God, the first of which is that God promises to guide us continuously. God never lets us walk in our own delusions. He guides us in the right path and teaches us His ways. The psalmist says, "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye" (Ps.32:8).
God uses His eyes to guide us. God is a specialist in using eye contact to pass a message across to His own people. God is our trusted guide. He does not mislead us. He does not lead us into danger, trouble, or temptation. He nudges, urges, persuades, propels, and guides us with His counsel. We read in Luke that Zacharias sees the purpose of God's earthly visit in Christ as being "to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to GUIDE our feet into the way of peace" (Lk.1:79). God's eye contact speaks volumes, and He guides our feet into peace. The Spirit guides us into all of God's truths.
God guides us constantly, consistently, and continually. He never relents. He never gets tired of guiding us.
The next thing our text reveals to us is that God satisfies our souls in drought. There is no scarcity in God. God's care of us does not depend on the world's economic system. He feeds and enriches our souls. He fattens our bones and waters our souls. People who see us see in reality a well-watered garden. This water flows from the Spirit's fountain. The garden of our soul is watered by the spring of life. This water bubbles in us. We sense and cherish the cooling presence of our God.
Yes, God guides us in the right path, provides our every need, nourishes our souls, and protects us from harm! Amen!
