Text: Isa.40:29

"He giveth POWER to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth STRENGTH."

God possesses infinite power and uses it for good. He never uses His power abusively or arbitrarily. He neither dominates nor intimidates anyone with His power. In fact, whatever His power does is informed by His wisdom. He is never power drunk.

Let us see what the Scripture reveals of how the power of God works.

*His reigning power

We read of the thundering voices in the book of Revelation saying, "Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth" (Rev.19:6). He has majestic might and regal power.

*His creative power

Jeremiah says, "Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee" (Jer.32:17). He possesses creative energy. The universe is proof of His immense ability.

*His saving power

The writer of Hebrews tells us, "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him…" (Heb.7:25). He saves utterly and perfectly. Salvation belongs to the Lord.

*His sanctifying power

In 1Cor.1:30, Paul declares, "But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us…sanctification," and in 2Thes.2:13, he says, "God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth." We are being constantly sanctified by the power of the Spirit as we yield ourselves to Him.

*His sustaining power

Hebrews 1:3 says, "Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and UPHOLDING ALL THINGS by the word of his POWER…"

God does not quit. Anything He begins, He sustains. The psalmist says, "Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved" (Ps.55:22). In the wilderness He sustained Israel for forty years. They lacked nothing, their clothes did not grow old on their bodies, and their feet did not swell up (Neh.9:21). God sustained Elijah in the time of hunger. And He has not stopped sustaining His people. David testifies, "I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me" (Ps.3:5).

*His curative power

Luke records, And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching…the POWER of the Lord was PRESENT TO HEAL THEM. His power makes healing possible. Jesus went everywhere preaching, teaching and healing. He is our great physician.

*His miraculous power

Two blind men came to Christ for the purpose of recovering their sight, and He asked them, "Believe ye that I am ABLE to do this?" Their response was, "Yea, Lord" (Mt.9:28). God has power to work miracles in your life. Interestingly, the Greek word for 'miracle' is 'dunamis,' the word for power. Whenever miracle happens the power of God is behind it.

*His wealth-generating power

Moses declares, "But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth…" (Dt.8:18). The ability to generate or make wealth is from God.

*His witnessing power

Jesus Christ tells His disciples, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth" (Act.1:8). This is power to bear witness in the world for Christ. It is soul-winning power. You have it; use it.

God's power serves God's purposes. His power works for our good both immediately and ultimately. Even now you can experience the reality of God's power in your own life. Amen.
