Focus: He's Coming!
Text: Jh.14:2-3
"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I WILL COME AGAIN, and receive you unto myself; that WHERE I AM, YE MAY BE ALSO."
In this Scripture we see the promise of Jesus Christ to His disciples. He says, "I will come again." Jesus Christ keeps His word. He said He was going to rise from the dead after three days, and He did. He kept His word. The Angel announced to the women , "He is not here: for he is risen, AS HE SAID. Come, see the place where the Lord lay" (Mt.28:6). The angel presented evidence. He said, "Come, see the place where the Lord lay." It is the evidence of the empty tomb. He vacated the tomb upon His resurrection.
Paul says concerning the Lord's table or the communion table, "For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death TILL HE COME" (1Cor.11:26).
Whenever we come to eat at the Lord's table we eat in hope. It is surely a celebration of hope - the hope of the coming of Christ for the second time.
The Lord Jesus Christ announced His coming to three churches in the book of Revelation. He says to the church in Thyatira, "That which you have, hold fast TILL I COME" (Rev.2:25). Here we have the fact or certainty of His coming. Surely, He is coming again for us. He says to the church in Sardis, "If therefore thou shalt not watch, I WILL COME AS A THIEF, and thou shalt not know what hour I WILL COME UPON THEE" (Rev.3:3). Here we have the uncertainty of the time of His coming. He will surely come, but He is coming at His own time. We are sure of His coming, but unsure of the time of it. He is coming suddenly - unexpectedly. He says to the church in Philadelphia, "I COME QUICKLY" (Rev.3:11). Here we have the imminence of His coming. He is coming shortly - very soon.
Jesus Christ our Lord is coming surely. He is coming suddenly - at a time unexpected. He is coming soon - in a short while.
John says to us, "We know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure" (1Jh.3:2,3). Hallelujah! Amen! Our hope is sacred, sure and solid, and we look forward to it. And while we wait for His coming, we get busy for Him. We watch and pray. We purify ourselves. We put our faith to work and impact our world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We labor for the salvation of souls. Yes, He's coming!
