Focus: I Am The Truth
Text: Jh.18:38
"Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?"
Pilate asked Jesus Christ, "What is truth?" Unfortunately he could not wait for an answer. John says, "And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews…" People are fond of rushing in and out of the presence of God. Even when we pray, we only talk to God without waiting for God to talk to us.
Pilate was in a hurry to wait for a response. Besides, the Roman governor of Judea thought that truth was nothing more than a proposition or a supposition. If he had waited a little, he would have heard Master Jesus say, 'I am the truth.'
Truth is a divine personality. Truth is found in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the embodiment of truth, and truth has been described as the highest form of reality.
Facts change; truth never changes. It is constant and consistent. When we embrace truth, then we have truly embraced infinite and ultimate reality. Beyond truth we go nowhere. Outside of truth we are lost. Truth sets free; lies bind. Truth integrates all of life, so that there is harmony and symphony. Iris Murdock said, "We live in a fantasy world, a world of illusion. The great task in life is to find reality."
Everything about God is connected to truth. Jesus Christ describes the Holy Spirit as "the Spirit of truth." Angel Gabriel calls the Scripture, "the Scripture of truth." Several Scriptures describe God's word as "the word of truth." Jesus Christ prays to His Father, "Sanctify them by your word; for your word is truth." Concerning God, the Scripture says, "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a GOD OF TRUTH and without iniquity, just and right is he" (Dt.32:4). The psalmist says, "Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD GOD OF TRUTH" (Ps.31:5). Isaiah says, "That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the GOD OF TRUTH; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the GOD OF TRUTH" (Isa.65:16).
You can see that everything about God is centered on and characterized by truth.
He demands that we worship Him in spirit and in truth. No lie! No hypocrisy! No deception! No dishonesty! No insincerity. No hocus pocus! No error! No unreality! We love in truth and speak the truth in love. We walk in the truth. Paul says, "I tell you the truth; I lie not."
Truth may hurt you but ultimately it heals. Someone says that a harmful truth is better than a useful lie. Truth liberates; it doesn't enslave. Truth is what thrills and satisfies the soul. Falsehood endangers and binds the soul.
I pray you welcome truth into your life and live by it. Paul tells us that love rejoices in the truth. Those who fight against the truth are bound to lose.
Let me end by telling you that TRUTH:
*Triumphs over falsehood
*Redeems the soul
*Unveils error
*Thrives where it's accepted
*Heals the heart
The truth is more than 'a what;' it is 'a who.' Truth is Christ personified. Embrace the embodied truth in Christ Jesus.
