Focus: It's Personal
Text:Lk.2:49
"Wist ye not that I must be about MY Father's BUSINESS?"
The Lord Jesus Christ in this Scripture sees the Father's business as His, not as ours. For Him, our thing is nobody's thing. If you wait for others to do the Father's business, you may end up doing nothing. Nothing is really achieved in the kingdom of Christ until everybody becomes somebody. Anything that has to do with God is intensely personal to Christ, and so it should be to the Christian.
There is this story of four people assigned to do a job. Their names are: Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. In this very important job, Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got infuriated, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody felt or thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It then turned out that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done! You got my point?
The Lord Jesus Christ waited for nobody to do anything for the Father. He came here and focused on doing something for the Father. He was at no time reluctant or hesitant. He had a sense of urgency and the spirit of mission. He burned with passion for His Father's house. He said, "I have come to do your will O God!" He took the Father's business personal.
It's about time we took the Father's business on earth personally and seriously. You are not everybody or just anybody. You are somebody. See God's work as your work. Someone prayed, "Lord, whatever you want to do in this world, don't do it without me." God asked, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" And Isaiah responded, "Here am I; send me." That is the spirit. That is the right mindset. Constantly ask yourself: Who will do it if I don't do it? Let your prayer always be: Lord, empower me and use me! I am available for whatever you want to do. Mary said, "Whatever he tells you to do, do it." Paul, in the moment of his encounter with Christ, said, "Lord, what do you want me to do?"
Consecration is the key to being useful in God's hands. Consecration means setting yourself apart for a divine task. It means being available, accessible and flexible to God.
Martin Luther rightly said that "Christianity is a word of personal pronoun." It is 'you' and God, not 'us' and God. Make God's work your work. Stop looking around to see who is there or not. Do what you must for the glory of God. Go all the way with God.
God is your enabler and provider. Whatever He wants you to do, He will give you the wherewithal to do it. God's work is done by faith. Ministry is faith-financed and miracle-supported. Just be willing and available for God to use you. When it comes to doing anything for God, take it personal. It is about your Father and His business. You are the person God wants to use.
