Focus: Jesus Knows!
Text: Jh.2:24
"But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men…"
Knowledge puts one in a position and possession of power. It is a tragedy to be ignorant of what one should have known. Knowledge is a treasure; it is an unquantifiable goldmine. Concerning Jesus, Paul says, "In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (Col.2:3). Jesus Christ possesses perfect knowledge. Let us read a few Scriptures to see His scope or range of knowledge.
Our text says He knew all men. He understands every man perfectly - our constitution and capabilities, our flaws and frailties, our demeanors and depravity, our proclivities and dispositions, our liabilities and limitations. The word "commit" in our text means faith, and that means He had no faith or trust in our twisted or depraved humanity. He couldn't bring Himself to rely on what man had become since the Fall in the garden of Eden.
John 2:25 says, "And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man." Apart from knowing all men, He also knows what is in man. He knows what stuff that man is made of. He knows man inside out, and needs no suppliers of proofs or confirmers, whether as psychologists or as prophets. He is in no doubt of man's inner qualities or potentials - good or bad.
John 5:6 says, "When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case…" Jesus knows your condition and how long you have been in it. Jesus is not blind to what you are going through. He knows the human condition represented by the impotent man. He knows how badly beaten you are by the circumstances of life. He knows the mess that you are in right now. He understands every bit of what you are passing through - your peril and pathos.
John 6:6 says, "And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do." Jesus knows more than your situation; He knows what to do. He has concrete answers to real life issues. Jesus knows and knows what to do with what He knows. He has adequate knowledge and sufficient power.
John 6:64 says, "But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him." John 13:11 adds, "For he knew who should betray him…" Nothing takes Jesus Christ by surprise. He knew Judas Iscariot would betray Him. Jesus didn't throw him out or hated him, or treated him with less love and respect than the other disciples. He knew people had roles to play in His life, including betrayers, and that God would make all things work together for good in the end. God's processes never ever misfire or backfire. Knowledge is advantageous to the one who knows. Knowledge gives you an edge over others.
John 11:42 says, "And I knew that thou hearest me always…" Jesus Christ knew He had His Father's ears in the place of prayer. The Father never blocked His ears from hearing the prayers of Jesus - and He knew it.
Finally, John 13:1 says, "Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus KNEW that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father…" Jesus was conscious of His time on earth and knew His hour of departure. He knew exactly how everything was going to pan out for Him from start to finish. He was always in the know. He lived and died a knower.
I pray you seek to know and live knowing. Knowledge is light; ignorance is darkness. Know God; know yourself; and know others. Know your environment and live confidently. Most importantly, embrace gladly the fact that your God knows all about you. He knows the end from the beginning and He is in control of every facet of your life. Trust God; He knows it all, and also, He knows what to do. Believe me; Jesus knows!
