Focus: Mindful of Christ
Text: Mt.22:42"What think ye of Christ?"
Christianity is not the religion of the thoughtless. Christ calls us to the business of serious thinking.
The Christian Faith is not diametrically opposed to critical thinking and thorough analysis. Christianity is not the product of mere emotionalism, sentimentalism, or subjectivism. As a matter of fact, the word 'think' in our text is dokeo in the Greek, which is the root word for 'glory.' And that means you cannot ascribe glory to a thing or someone beyond what you think of it or him. To think less of Christ is to praise less of Him. The psalmist says, "Thou art FAIRER than the children of men..." - Ps.45:2. To the beloved, in the Song of Solomon, her lover is "altogether lovely," and "the chiefest among ten thousand."
What's your opinion and assessment of Christ? Low view of Christ results in low value of Him. The men of David said to him, "But now thou art worth ten thousand of us..." - 2Sam.18:3. In their estimation David was one soldier too many. They used a ratio of one to ten thousand. What a soldier David was - a highly esteemed soldier and an exceptional warrior!
Take a good look at, even a closer view of the Christ of God, and tell someone what you think. What reputation does Christ hold in your view? Is He worthy of your worship and sacrifice? What charm does He hold in your heart?
Think of who He is, what He says, and all He does! Sarah judged Him faithful. His words are with power. By His words He creates and constructs. He walks on the water. He heals the sick. He cleanses the leper, makes the lame walk, and opens the eyes of the blind. He exorcises demons and destroys the forces of darkness. He raises the dead and restores hope. He answers prayer and transforms lives. He died on the cross and rose from the dead to give us life and freedom. What do you think and say of Christ?
