Focus: More Than A Savior
Text: Lk.6:46
"And why call ye me, LORD, LORD, and do not the things which I say?"
Jesus is the Savior of the world. He died on the cross to save us from sin, Satan, and death. By accepting Him as Savior we are forever saved and given eternal life. He redeems us from sin to righteousness, from the power of Satan to the power of God, and from death to life. He sets us free from bondage and brings us into the liberty of the sons of God. We are eternally blessed for having Him as our Savior. But another important truth worth knowing is that Jesus is more than a Savior; He is the Lord. It is interesting to know that it is as Lord that He saved us. Salvation is found in nowhere else other than in Christ Jesus, our Lord (Act.4:12). Jonah says that "salvation is of the LORD" (Jon.2:9).
He was born to be our Savior and raised from the dead to be our Lord. The angel announces, "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a SAVIOUR, which is CHRIST the LORD" (Lk.2:11). This Scripture makes it clear that Jesus is more than a Savior; He is indeed Christ the Lord. He is the sovereign Lord. He has the authority to reign supreme over us.
By saving us, we experience peace WITH God, but by being our Lord, we experience the peace OF God. Isaiah calls Him "the Prince of peace," meaning that we shall know His peace when we acknowledge Him as our prince.
The Lord Jesus says, "Ye call me MASTER and LORD: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your LORD and MASTER, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet" (Jh.13:13,14). As the Lord, He commands, demands, and delights in our loyalty. We do His bidding.
The Old Testament story of Solomon bears this truth out. It is written, "And they MADE Solomon the son of David king the second time…" That is what God has called us to do, to make Jesus Christ king of our hearts and lives. Enthrone Christ as king in your heart. We read next, "Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his father, and PROSPERED; and ALL ISRAEL OBEYED HIM. And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, SUBMITTED themselves unto Solomon the king" (1Chron.29:22,23,24).
Jesus Christ should sit as king on the throne of your heart. He should reign as the Lord of your life. He should claim and occupy every sphere of your life. The glory of God shall be seen by all when we give Him the right of way and let Him reside in and preside over us.
The moment Solomon took over the throne all Israel willingly submitted themselves and obeyed him in all things. Solomon's word was law, and his wish was their command. Loyalty and royalty intermingled as it was meant to be.
Solomon prospered as king under the atmosphere of the people's submission and obedience. Jesus Christ will prosper in your life if you let Him, and I pray you let Him. Amen.
