Focus: Our Rock
Text: Dt.32:31"For their rock is not as our Rock..."
The rock as a biblical metaphor speaks volumes. So much to learn about it. One basic truth worth knowing is that God is our rock, and from that truth comes other vital lessons, such as:
*In God our rock we find strength and security. The psalmist says, "In God is my salvation and my glory: the ROCK of my STRENGTH and my refuge is in God" - Ps.62:7.
*In God our rock we find our home of safety or defense. Again, the psalmist tells us, "Be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me" - Ps.31:2.
*In God our rock we find salvation. Yet again, the psalmist records, "He shall cry unto me, Thou art my Father, my God, and the ROCK of my SALVATION" - Ps.89:26.
*In Christ our rock we find provision. Paul lends his voice, "For they drank of that spiritual rock that followed them; and that ROCK was Christ" - 1Cor.10:4. Moses says, "He made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock" - Dt.32:13. See also Isaiah 48:21.
*In Christ our rock the church discovers her foundation. Matthew reports, "Thou art Peter, and upon this ROCK I will build my church" - Mt.16:18. What a firm, solid and immovable foundation we have in Christ Jesus!
Caution:
Let us not lightly esteem the rock of our salvation - Dt.32:15.
Let us not be unmindful of the rock that begat us - Dt.32:18.
Blessings!
