Focus: Sacrifice of Love
Text: 2Cor.8:9"For your sakes he became poor."
God became man at a great cost. He had to strip or divest Himself of His infinite wealth to wear our humanity. It was a process of condescension, and indeed of becoming poor for our sake.
Has it ever occurred to you that virtually every food Jesus ate while here on earth was the food of the poor? He was born in a manger, lived in Nazareth, the lowliest of places, and mingled with the very poor. His parents couldn't afford the normal child dedication offering at the temple.
It was for our sakes that He became poor. That's the sacrifice of love.
Sin diseased, depowered, diminished, and impoverished us. Sin stripped us of the glory of God. We lost paradise through sin. We became slaves to sin. Call it total destitution or abject poverty. Man lives under a curse caused by sin.
But that's why Christ came, and that's why He became poor for our sake.
The whole of Paul's text says, "For ye know the GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became POOR, that ye through his poverty might be RICH."
Grace happened to us when Christ became poor for our sake. See what the grace of God in Christ has done for us!
*Gifted us with eternal life
*Robed us in righteousness
*Atoned for our sins
*Changed our life and status
*Empowered and enriched us
Hallelujah! Amen! Reflect deeply on that, and may the Lord give you understanding!Merry Christmas to you!
