Focus: Seize The Moment!
Text: Mk.10:48
"And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me."
Blind Bartimaeus found a lifetime opportunity, and he determined never to let it pass him by. He saw a miraculous moment and a great opportunity, and seized it. Jesus Christ was passing by his way, and he got a wind of it. He cried out to Christ for mercy. He had nothing to lose for praying. He took that one chance that came his way. Enemies of progress tried to stop him. They told him to keep quiet and to not disturb Master Jesus. But he refused. Instead he shouted louder and louder, yelled and yelled, screamed and screamed. He was persistent. He would not let anyone stop him. All he wanted was the attention of Jesus Christ. He was desperate, and rightly so. Don't let people who know nothing about what you are going through stop you from seizing your life's moment! It is moment by moment that momentum is built. An atom of time you seize becomes atomic.
Mark reports that "Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And THEY call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee" (Mk.10:49). Jesus Christ stopped and had him called. The Lord Jesus Christ asked the same people who tried to stop him, to call him. To cut the long story short, blind Bartimaeus got what he wanted from the Lord Jesus Christ.
I remember William Barclay saying in one of his books that the kingdom of God is not for the well meaning but for the desperate. O how true and explosive that statement is! The Lord Jesus Christ says, "And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force" (Mt.11:12).
In this life certain things don't come to you; you go to them. No miracle falls on your laps by accident. You have to stretch your hands to take what God is giving you, or it will never be yours.
In the world of politics, it is said that power is taken, not given. In fact the current president of my country, Bola Amed Tinubu, said that 'power is not served a la carte.' No one gets to the top of the mountain by a jump. You get there by climbing up to it. You must do all in your power to get what you want out of life. Press your way into your desired haven! Show enough passion in your pursuit! Pursue your dream with passion! Show enough commitment and plenty determination! Get away from the fringes of life!
The best that life can offer is never found on the surface. Life has so much more to offer us, but they lie beyond the surface. So stop living on the periphery and get down to the nitty gritty! Desire and demand more from life! Stop living life on the sidelines!
Be spiritually sensible and sensitive! See your moment and seize it! Take your chances as they come! Let no one keep you from getting what is coming to you! People who don't know your pain can't get you out of it. They don't understand why you pray the way you do - so ceaselessly and so earnestly. They don't understand why you make the sacrifices you make. They don't understand why you go the extra mile or why you take certain actions that are unconventional. Just do what you must to get God's attention and experience His manifestation. Those who don't understand you today will certainly join you tomorrow in celebration of what God has done for you. Right now you have to seize your moment and take your chances!
