Focus: Sure And Solid Blessing

Text: Num.6:24-27

"The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:

The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them."

In Christ our blessing is sure. God tells Moses to tell Aaron how to bless Israel in His name. Blessing in God's name is sealed and secure. The name of the Lord is the highest guarantee in the universe.

In these verses the word 'bless' occurs thrice, emphasizing totality and certainty. It means that you are totally and certainly blessed. The word 'Lord' occurs three times, signifying that the Lord is the source of your blessing and no one and nothing else is.

Part of our text reads, "The Lord bless THEE." The word 'thee' means that the blessing of God is personal. An individual believer can possess or own the blessing. There is a sense in which the blessing is personal.

One of the verses reads, "And they shall put my name upon the CHILDREN of Israel; and I will bless THEM."

The words 'children' and 'them' mean that the blessing is more than personal, it is corporate or communal. God wants His blessing to go round, reaching and touching every member of His family. No one can boast of being the only blessed person in God's family.

Now the blessing concerns divine blessing - "The Lord bless thee" - sure and solid blessing. It says, "The Lord keep thee" - it also concerns divine security. It reads again, "And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them." The Lord blesses and secures His children. In Christ you enjoy diverse blessings.

And it reads, "The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee."

The Lord gives the believer in Christ a glowing face - faces that make you look exceptionally beautiful.

The last verse under consideration tells us about the countenance of God and the peace of God. You need God's face to radiate on you. You need God's peace to saturate your heart.

I pray you experience divine blessing, divine security and divine peace - including a glowing face made possible by the graciousness of God. In all facets of your life you will experience the ever unfolding blessing of God - blessings so solid and so sure that you find yourself bowing down in worship to the Lord. Amen!
