Focus: Tell The Lord

Text: Mk.1:30

"But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her."

Peter's mother in law was sick of fever. Luke reports that it was a great fever - acute one. That means her body temperature was heated up. Literally speaking, her whole body was on fire, and she felt utterly uncomfortable. They talked to the Lord Jesus Christ about it and He came to the house.

Luke tells us that "he STOOD OVER her, and REBUKED the fever…" Then Matthew adds that "he TOUCHED her hand, and the fever left her." And we learn from Mark's account that Jesus "took her by the hand, and lifted her up." So we can see the care and attention she received from the Lord. The Lord took charge of the situation by standing over her, rebuking the intense and immense fever, tenderly grabbing her by the hand, and lifting her up to her feet. Then we read that the fever left her, "and immediately she arose and MINISTERED unto them" (Lk.4:39).

She recovered miraculously and instantly served and cared for them. By grace she was healed and by grace she served the Lord. She wasted no time in returning the favor through service. As we know, one good turn deserves another. Grace begets grace and kindness also begets kindness.

She did not take grace for granted. She appropriated and appreciated grace. She was eternally grateful for her healing, and showed it by serving them. Let us not take the grace of God for granted. Let healing grace flow forth in serving grace.

What is your issue? Who is going through trouble in your family? Are you in pain of any sort? Is anyone in your family suffering from fever or something more severe? Then tell Jesus about it. Talk to the Master. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He saves and cures. He loves and cares. He heals by a word and by a touch. He is able to meet your needs. He has limitless power and absolute authority. With Christ nothing is impossible.

Get his attention. Involve Him in every affair of your life. Call on Him. Let Him know what is happening to you. He cures all ills and meets every need. Just tell the Lord.
