Focus: The Word Works
Text: Ps.119:114; 130:5
"Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I HOPE IN THY WORD."
"I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, AND IN HIS WORD DO I HOPE."
God makes things happen by means of His word. God's word is God's system of operation. Creation is the product of the word. God's word is full of God's power. God stands by His word to make it happen. No force in the universe can withstand the power of God's word. God's word has the stamp of God's authority.
Like hammer, God's word breaks and shatters things. Like fire, God's word melts, consumes and purifies things. Like water, God's word washes and cleanses things.
God heals and blesses by means of His word. God confirms His word by signs, wonders and miracles.
In Act.6:7, Luke writes, "And the word of God INCREASED…" The word has the capacity of ever increasing. Wherever the word is planted, there it germinates, enlarges, and produces.
In Act.12:24, we read that "the word of God GREW and MULTIPLIED." The word grows and multiplies. Like a seed when planted, it makes possible an incredible harvest.
In Act.19:20, Luke records, "So mightily GREW the word of God and PREVAILED." The word avails and prevails. It breaks through. It surmounts obstacles. It conquers all odds and overcomes the overwhelming. The word wins and rules.
Be it the living word, the written word, the indwelling word or the spoken word, the word works. In whatever form you find the word, it works. It can't be confined or caged. Paul says, "The word of God is not bound" (2Tim.2:9). In Jeremiah it is written, "Moreover the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison…" (Jer.33:1). No prison can keep God's word out. No power can nullify or neutralize the power of the word. No space can keep the word out. The word has unfettered, unhindered and unlimited access to all places.
A centurion said, "Lord, speak the word ONLY, and my servant shall be healed." Distance is not a barrier to the word of God. God's word works wonders.
Let's join the psalmist to hope on God's word. Believe God's word and rest on it. The weight of God's word can carry you. You can absolutely rely on the word of the Lord. Amen.
