Focus: The Day of the Wells

Text: Isa.12:3

"Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation."

Today we are considering the day of the wells. By the word 'day' we are talking about the era or times of the wells. Paul says, "(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)" (2Cor.6:2). So you see, we have the WELLS of salvation and also the DAY of salvation. The WELLS of salvation are for the DAY of salvation.

*Day of the Wells

Now, let's focus on Isaiah 11 and 12, because the two go together. First, let's read Isa.12:1, and it says, "And in that DAY, thou shalt say…" So there is a day. Verse 4 says, "And in that DAY shall ye say…" Now in chapter 11:10, we read, "And in that DAY there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious." Verse 11 says, "And it shall come to pass in that DAY…" Also, in verse 16, we read, "Like as it was to Israel in the DAY…" So we can see that there is a day in which the wells would enliven and enrich the lives of the saved. Let us now ask, What day is that? According to Isaiah 12, it is the day when God's anger against His people is turned away and when He comforts our hearts by redeeming us to Himself. It is also the day when the Lord has become our salvation, strength and song.

*A second exodus

But let's move back to Isa.11:11 and 16 and see what it has to say. "And it shall come to pass in that DAY, that the Lord shall SET HIS HAND AGAIN the SECOND TIME to RECOVER the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea… And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; LIKE AS IT WAS TO ISRAEL IN THE DAY THAT HE CAME UP OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT." Isaiah is here referring to a Second Exodus. He saw another exodus coming in which God was going to repeat history. God who redeemed Israel from the Egyptian bondage would do it again. Another day of redemption was coming - the day of salvation. On that day of salvation the Lord would provide the wells of salvation for the redeemed. The called-out ones would drink water from these wells. We are living in the days of the second exodus. What God did for Israel in Egypt, He is doing for us today. Calvary is the place of the second exodus.

*Let's draw and drink

Israel found wells at Elim when they came out of Egypt. Right there at Elim, they also saw 70 palm trees (Ex.15:27). We get palm oil from palm trees. So here at Elim, they found water and oil, which are very symbolic for the believer in Christ.

That day of salvation is today and those wells of salvation are here now for all the redeemed. To have these wells and be a dry Christian is an anomaly. To come to these wells and not have something to draw with, is an act of self-sabotage. The Scripture tells us to come boldly to the throne of grace. The Scripture tells us to come, believing. The Scripture tells us to come with joy and anticipation. To draw means to appreciate grace and appropriate for oneself the abundant provisions of Christ. To live in lack amid all that Christ died to provide is regrettable.

We are now living in the era of the wells. The age of grace is still running. The hour of salvation is not past yet. The accepted time is here. We are living in the Due Season of Open Heaven. Grace is available; it avails and prevails. God is our Source and the resources of grace flow from Him. The wells are inviting and satisfying.

Let's help the unsaved to be saved and qualify for these wells. We praise God for the day and for the wells of salvation. The second exodus has taken place at Calvary. The wells are here as a result. Let's come to our Elim of twelve wells and seventy palm trees, and to our Canaan land where we drink from wells that we did not dig. Let's drink from the wells of Scripture and from the wells of the indwelling Spirit in us. Let's drink from the living waters of Christ. We are living in the days of the wells - the day of salvation. Amen.
