Focus: The Father's Hands
Text: Lk.23:46"Father, into THY HANDS I commend my spirit..."
Here is Jesus Christ our Lord at the point of death, committing His spirit to His Father. He fully trusted His Father even while dying on the cross.
Jesus believed His Father's hand was a safe place - able strong, and the best of hands.
Before the time of this committal, the Father had Himself committed all things to His Son. Jesus said so himself. "The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his HANDS" (Jh.3:35). O yes, love commits. And Jesus kept the Father's trust, for in His High Priestly prayer, He says to the Father, "While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled" (Jh.17:12). He kept the Father's trust.
At another time He boldly and audaciously declared, "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my HAND" (Jh.10:28).
Furthermore, He testifies thus of the Father, "My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's HAND" (Jh.10:29). The Father keeps safe and intact whatever is committed to His hands.
Jesus had confidence in His Father's ability to keep His spirit. His spirit was what was left of Him after His body had been beaten and battered and His soul was going to go to the region of the dead to preach to, and deliver the dead saints (1Pet.3:19). With His spirit safe in the Father's hands, He was sure of His whole being coming together again at the resurrection. Hallelujah!
Child of God, whatever it is you are going through, trust our Father in heaven. Entrust your life into His hands. You are safe in His able hands. Every moment of your life, trust Him.
*His hand is mighty (Ex.3:19; 32:11; 1Pet.5:6).
*His hand is strong and full of strength (Ex.6:1; 13:3,9,14,16).
*He saves with a high hand (Ex.14:8).
*His hand is "glorious in power" (Ex.15:6).
*His hand can hold you up (Ps.18:35; 37:24; 63:8).
*In His hand is saving strength (Ps.20:6).
*His hand does valiantly (Ps.118:15,16). Amen.
