Focus: The Spring of the Caller
Text: Judg.15:18-19
"And he was SORE ATHIRST, and called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die of thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised? But God clave an hollow place that was in the jaw, and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: wherefore he called the name thereof ENHAKKORE, which is in Lehi unto this day."
It was a great victory. One man against thousands. God's anointed and appointed against the hosts of uncircumcised Philistines. With a jawbone of an ass Samson killed a thousand of his enemies. Indeed the victory was God-given and Spirit-wrought.
At the end of the battle Samson got tired and thirsty. He desperately needed water and was fast losing breath by the minutes. All he could see was death fast approaching. In that moment of intense thirst and loss of energy, he called on God for immediate help. Right there and then, God manifested Himself and saved the situation.
He saw that the same jawbone he had fought with and discarded had water gushing from it. He then drank from it and instantly regained his life and strength. With the jawbone he gained victory, and with it again, his soul was revived. In that instant he called the name of the place, Enhakkore, meaning, the spring of the caller.
Our God hears and answers prayer, and for everyone who calls upon Him, there is a spring. Samson wanted water to quench his thirst, and he got a spring. Whatever your need is, God is more than able to meet it. He won't let you die just yet. God has done bigger things than what you are crying for right now. You have survived impossible battles in the immediate past; surely, you will survive the present 'thirst' or whatever that might represent in your life. Trust God enough to call upon Him even in the moment of need or crisis. He did it for Samson, and I am certain that He will do it for you. There's a spring for the caller.
Let Matthew tell you about Peter's own deliverance. "But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And IMMEDIATELY Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him…" (Mt.14:30-31). Peter prayed, and immediately Jesus responded and saved him. There's a spring for the caller. It is written that those who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. The Lord saved Samson and Peter. You are next in line for a miracle. Amen.
