Focus: The Unseen Pillars!
Text: 1Sam.2:8
"For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, And He has set the world upon them."
God is the original and ultimate construction engineer. He is the number one architect and builder. In the Scripture God is described as "builder and maker" (Heb.11:10). In the Greek, the words "builder and maker" could refer to a technical and mechanical expert, engineer, guru, or master.
The first chapter of Genesis introduces God as the creator of the universe, and tells us that He spoke all things into existence. His word served as the raw material by which the universe was manufactured. God designs things through words. His words and His works are connected. Luke reports that the people, upon hearing the words of Jesus Christ, "were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power" (Lk.4:32). Luke continues, "And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out" (Lk.4:36). The Lord Jesus Christ took care of things by the words of His mouth.
Hannah in her prayer tells us that God owns the pillars of the world, meaning that the world has pillars. Hannah further reveals that the world is resting on these pillars. The amazing thing is that no human being has ever come across these pillars. From one end of the earth to another there are no pillars sighted anywhere in this universe. Yet they are there. They are unseen pillars formed and sustained by the word of God. The author of Hebrews tells us about the Lord Jesus Christ, "who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and UPHOLDING all things by the WORD of his power" (Heb.1:3). The "pillars" mentioned by Hannah are invisible pillars designed, supported and sustained by God's word.
The word of God has all the power of God in it. God's word is full of power and authority. God's power backs up God's word.
If preachers speak God's word with God's power and authority behind it, then we'll begin to experience afresh God's heaven on earth. John Newton said, "My grand point in preaching is to break the hard heart, and to heal the broken one." By the power in God's word hard hearts are broken and broken ones are mended. Peter preached the word with power on the day of Pentecost, and the hearts of the people were pricked. We read concerning the audience that "when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?" (Act.2:37).
God's word breaks yokes, casts out demons, heals the sick, saves the lost, changes hearts, transforms lives, and takes care of impossible situations.
Have faith in God's word and look up to God to do what He has said. Whatever He says, He does. The universe is resting on God's invisible pillars, and these pillars in turn are supported and sustained by the word of God. Where God's infallible word is, there is infinite power. I pray you experience the miracle of God's word even now - in the name of Jesus Christ! Amen!
