Focus: What A Name!

Text: Song of Sol.1:3

"Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy NAME is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee."

We love the name of our God. It is the highest name in the universe. God's name speaks volumes and it lasts for time and eternity. His name is music to our ears. His name sweetens our hearts. Like a goodly scent, His name smells so good.

Every name of God sounds so sweet to the ears of the believer.

God's name is holy (Ps.105:3), excellent (Ps.148:13), glorious (Ps.72:19), reverend (Ps.111:9), pleasant (Ps.135:3), good (Ps.52:9), and it has honor and glory (Ps.66:2; 79:9).

*The name of God guarantees victory 

David defeated Goliath in the name of the Lord. He says, "Thou comest to me with a SWORD, and with a SPEAR, and with a SHIELD: but I come to thee in the NAME of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied" (1Sam.17:45).

The psalmist says, "Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy NAME will we tread them under that rise up against us… All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them" (Ps.44:5; 118:10).

*Demons are cast out in the name of the Lord

John said to Jesus, "Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy NAME…" (Lk.9:49). The seventy disciples said to Jesus, "Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy NAME" (Lk.10:17).

*Everywhere in God's universe knees must bow to the name of Jesus Christ 

Paul says, "That at the NAME of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in HEAVEN, and things in EARTH, and things UNDER the earth" (Phil.2:10).

*The name of the Lord works miracles (Act.3:6,16; 4:10,30)

*The name of the Lord is a defense

The psalmist says, "The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the NAME of the God of Jacob DEFEND thee" (Ps.20:1).

*The name of the Lord guarantees safety 

Solomon says, "The NAME of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe" (Prov.18:10).

*All you do should be in the Lord's name 

Paul enjoins us, "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the NAME of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him" (Col.3:17).

You have God's name in your possession. Everything you need is in His name. It is your open cheque. Treasure it. Hallow it. Use it. Worship it. Glory in it. Believe it. Rejoice in it. You are saved and blessed by it. You are baptized into it. You are called by the name of the Lord. His name is your insurance and assurance.
