Focus: Why Worry?

Text: Judg.15:18

"He was sore athirst, and called on the Lord, and said, thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst?"

Through the hands of Samson God wrought a great deliverance in Israel and saved them from their foes. Now Samson thinks and feels he is about to die of thirst after being mightily used of God. The warrior of God's people is now in desperate need of water to drink.

He feels as someone who is losing life by the minutes and seconds. He can feel the presence of death around him and the pressure of death upon him. So in his last desperate attempt, and with the remaining strength in him, he cries out to God for help. In his prayer he says to God, 'Why let me die of thirst after using me to effect such a great deliverance? What sense does it make? Is it proper? Why handle a matter of this magnitude, and then fail to tackle a matter as minute as quenching my thirst?' Samson the great warrior is losing his life for want of water. The man who killed a thousand soldiers is now dying of thirst, and wonders where God went.

Jesus Christ said to His disciples, "Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on… Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?… Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof" (Mt.6:25,27,28,31,34).

Why worry? God can take care of your need whether it is great or small. It doesn't take God more power to lift a mountain than to lift a feather.

Paul writes, "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" (Rom.8:32). God has done the greatest thing by the sending of His Son to die on the cross for us. So God can never be bothered with the tiniest and littlest needs in our lives. Stop worrying! Stop being afraid! God will always meet you at the point of your need. He knows what to do about your needs, when to do it, and how to go about it. You need not worry, nor be afraid; just look up to God and rely on Him. He handles big things as well as small ones. Amen!
