Focus: Winners With The Lamb
Text: Rev.17:14
"These shall war against the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them, for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful."
In Revelation 16 we find political Babylon. In Revelation 18 we read of commercial Babylon - the business system of the world. Here in Revelation 17 religious Babylon is exposed. In verse one is the mystery woman sitting on top of many waters, and John was told by an angel what the waters represent on which the woman sits.
John writes that "the waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues" (Rev.17:15). In verse three, she is sitting "upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns." In verse nine, she is sitting upon seven mountains. She is a bad influence, parades great affluence, and displays incredible arrogance. John tells us that "the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth" (Rev.17:18). So the kings hated her and came together to cut her to size with the support of the beast. John writes that "the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall HATE the whore, and shall make her DESOLATE and NAKED, and shall EAT her flesh, and BURN her with fire" (Rev.17:16).
The Beast and the kings join forces against the Lamb. John says, "These shall war against the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them, for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful."
The Lamb cannot be conquered. It is not possible. He wins as proof that He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He rules and overrules. He is the Lamb, the Lion, the King, the Lord, the Warrior and Winner.
Moses declares, "For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God, showing no partiality and accepting no bribe" (Dt.10:17). The kings are deceived by the feeble appearance of the Lamb. He never looks like a winner. They see Him as one to be easily conquered and crushed. But John tells us that the Lamb did overcome them.
The Lamb never loses any battle. He is enthroned forever. His power is limitless. His authority is absolute. His wisdom and knowledge are infinite. Knees bow to His name and tongues confess His Lordship to the glory of the Father.
It is interesting to see how different Versions of Scripture translated the last part of our text. The Revised Version says, "And they also shall overcome that are with Him." English Revised Version says, "And they also shall overcome that are with him, called and chosen and faithful." New Heart English Bible says, "They also will overcome who are with him, called and chosen and faithful." Weymouth New Testament says, "And those who accompany Him--called, as they are, and chosen, and faithful--shall share in the victory." NET Bible says, "And those accompanying the Lamb are the called, chosen, and faithful."
Believers in Christ are the called, the chosen and the faithful, and we share in the victory of the Lamb. His win is our win. His success is ours, too. We are an unbeatable team with the Lamb. Being in His company is our greatest privilege. We will never lose a battle being on His side. We are eternally connected to Him. We cannot fail. We cannot be defeated. We cannot lose. We have assurance and insurance. The Lamb is with us and we are with Him. We are winners with the Lamb. Amen!
