Focus: Wired for Wonders
Text: Jh.7:21"Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel."
Jesus is the doer of works. Every side he turns or goes He is doing something. And He works on people and changes their stories. Jesus goes everywhere doing good. Apart from being good, He is always doing good. His presence alone in our lives is good news. His words and works are good.
What is interesting and captivating to me in this text of scripture is the fact that Jesus is addressing His Jerusalem audience, and He says to them, "I have done ONE WORK, and you all MARVEL."
Just one work and everyone is already beside themselves. He is just starting, and everyone is already breathing a sigh of relief. Just one work, and everyone is getting a shocker - pleasantly surprised, I mean. His work is a beauty and a wonder to behold. Just one work, and people are already amazed. Jesus does unusual things. He is different from all of us and all He does is different. He operates from another realm. The world is full of the evil works of men, but in the same world of evil, Jesus does good works.
We are Jesus' men in the world, and we are supposed to be doing Jesus' kind of works - works that make men marvel. Works that make men think out of the box. Works that cause shock, and that make someone feel pleasantly surprised. Works that make for joy. Works that stir or ignite the soul.
What is that one work you must do for another to marvel? Do it now!
We live in a world where it is normal for people to hate those who hate them and love only those who love them. Personal interest is behind virtually everything that we do, and we see it as normal. We grade our loves and love according to what is in it for us. We do good only to those who are good to us, and we have no forgiveness in our heart for those who try to harm or hurt us, and for us, it is just normal.
The way of Jesus is different. He does things differently and operates from a different center. His motives are pure and His love is radical. The same goes for us. In Christ we have become unique people who live, love and labor uniquely. We marvel the world by our words and our works. God has made you a wonder and wired you by grace to do wonders among men. Amen.
