Focus: Your Key To A Miracle
Text: Jh.2:5
"Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it."
Miracle is not the same thing as magic. Magic is a sort of abracadabra. Miracle is God's power in action, and what God's power does is decided and determined by God's wisdom, and God's wisdom sets the parameters for all choices and actions.
Obedience is a function of wisdom. The Scripture acknowledges that the fear of the Lord is the first principle of wisdom and knowledge. What we do in obedience to God's instructions connect us to God's miracles. Obedience is the key that opens the door to the miraculous of God, and indeed, obedience is the other side of faith. Leah and Rachel said to Jacob, their husband, "… now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do" (Gen.31:16). That is a wise and timeless counsel.
Doing what God says marks out the spiritual man. No one is spiritual who lives and acts contrary to divine instructions.
Mary knew the possibility of a miracle where obedience to Christ is concerned. So she said to the servants, "Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it." The miracle of turning water into wine happened at a wedding party in Cana, because those servants obeyed Christ's commands. The Lord Jesus Christ said to them, "Fill the pots with water." Their obedience was the raw material Christ used in producing a wine so special and sweet to the taste that the master of ceremony testified to that effect. He said, "Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now" (Jh.2:10).
We are serving a God who saves the best for the last. As a matter of fact, He makes the best out of the worst. All He makes and gives, at all times, is the best.
John says, "When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was (but the servants which drew the water knew;)" (Jh.2:9). The Lord Jesus Christ made wine out of water. Ingredients for making wine included, grapes, granulated or fruit-based fermentable sugar, yeast nutrients, filtered water, concentrates or preservative, pectic enzymes, sulphite, citric acid, and so on. Christ Jesus used just water. His unique brand of wine was made of only water, nothing else. Obedience provided the water; the power of Christ turned the water into wine.
I pray you give God something to work with. Give Him the raw material of pure and wholehearted obedience!
The master of the wedding ceremony tasted the water and found out that it had the taste of wine. It was tasty, colorful and fragrant, yet made only of water. He marveled at the mystery of it, but the servants could tell it was nothing but ordinary water.
The servants simply obeyed, and miracle resulted from it. They did as they were instructed. Obedience is a spiritual sacrifice. It is the nitty gritty of spiritual worship. Jesus Christ says to his disciples, "If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them" (Jh.13:17).
It is awesome to know, but so awful to know and not do. Doing what you know is the secret of happiness - a powerful secret of blessedness and blissfulness. It is not always sweet to obey, but its fruit is always sweet to the taste. Be assured that your obedience is key to your miracle and spiritual success! An obedient child of God is always in God's miracle list. Isaiah declares that "the willing and obedient will eat the best of the land." I pray that it will be so in your life! God is best challenged when we do what He says and bow to His authority.
